Mountains, Mountains and more Mountains

Ridgway State Park

View from Ridgway State Park

May 12th 2012

We left Mesa Verde this morning and back tracked the ten miles into Cortez where we picked up scenic highway 145. This route took us through Dolores, Stoner, Rico, and Telluride where we saw multimillion dollar homes scattered across the mountains overlooking this famous resort town.  We continued through Placerville and eventually arriving in Ridgway where we are staying at a lovely State Park. The snow capped Rockies are awesome; Ridgway is home to Ralph Lauren where his 17,000 acre ranch, the little you can see of it, is huge.  We drove miles and miles before leaving his property.

After getting set up at the park we drove to Ouray another pretty mountain town that is nestled into the mountains.  We took a short walk to view cascade falls which was running with snow melt from above. There is a gold mine tour offered in Ouray that we may check out tomorrow.

We don’t have WIFI in the park so we are off to town to see if we can post this blog.
Happy Mother’s day to all the Mothers out there.
