Another Early Start....

Just can't get the hang of sleeping in yet. We were on the road by 8:00 am and by 10:30 we had already taken a 2.5 mile walk through Petroglyph National Monument to view drawings from ancient Indians and early settlers, some of the drawings are 3000 years old. By the time we finished the walk the weather was perfect, mid 70's and sunny, sunny, and more sun. The days have been great so far and the nights cool down for great sleeping.

We are staying just west of Albuquerque at Enchantment Trails RV Park. The owners are collectors and some of  their older RV's have been featured on some TV shows. We really like this RV Park, very clean, I really loved the laundry room and the couple that manage it are very nice..We are going to run into town (Albuquerque) this afternoon, after doing laundry, tomorrow we will be going to Elephant Butte State Park.

Old Town Albuquerque was really pretty, many of the stores and restaurants  were closed because of Good Friday, but Rich got a lot of great photos.

Change of plans, we decided to stay in Albuquerque for one more day we really need to catch up on grocery shopping and just do some relaxing, we've just been driving way to much. We also have some small repairs to do on the RV.

As Richard explained, we got a very early start to the day, so we decided to drive to Taos. The day was beautiful, sunny, and in the 60's. You can see from the pictures that  Taos is a very beautiful town. Great shopping and art galleries everywhere. We then drove to the Rio Grande Gorge, the second highest span bridge in the U.S. It was awesome. We had also wanted to go to the Taos Pueblo but it was closed for the season, so we returned to Santa Fe for more pictures and lunch. Tomorrow on to Albuquerque.

Time travel....

Wow, after being use to getting up at 5:30 for so many years, it's almost automatic to get up without an alarm. That's what happened this morning. Except once we up we discovered that we are in the mountain time zone. 4:20 not 5:20. Oh well we will get early start to the day.

Snow and Santa Fe

We had another long day of driving today.  We left Kinsley Kansas at 7:30 and arrived in Santa Fe, NM  around 5:00. We are staying at a beautiful campground outside of the city.  The weather was chilly and foggy until we entered NM  then turned to beautiful sunshine. We were surprised at all the snow on the ground between Taos and Santa Fe. Thankfully there is no snow where we are staying. We went into town for dinner and took a drive through downtown Santa Fe, what a beautiful place, hope you enjoy the pictures there will be more tomorrow.

We stopped in Dodge City and took a couple of pictures. It was early and nothing was opened yet. They do a nice gun fight everyday outside the saloon for all the tourists. Didn't see a thing of Marshal Dillion or Chester Proudfoot however.

 Day2
Too many miles today! We left at 8:00 AM  stopped for lunch at a rest stop along the Kansas turnpike. We arrived in Kingsley Kansas at 6:00 PM. We checked into our first  Passport America campground, we  are card holders so camping at associate member campgrounds is half price,  $12.50 vs $25.00 for full hookups not bad. The weather here is cloudy and 62 degrees, possible storms this evening. Tomorrow we should be in New Mexico and will slow things down a bit. No pictures today, sorry.
We are having issues with our MiFi, blogspot. We may have to send it back for replacement.

Day 1
We left Monday, April 2 at 7:00 AM, we stopped at noon for gas in Osceola Iowa. We discovered a Casino right down the street, the Lakeside Casino and RV Park. Normally we would put in way more hours driving then this but the RV park even had cable so in we went to check it out. Once inside the Casino we found out that Monday was Senior Day and if you signed up for a players card you could get 2for1 lunch buffet, making our lunch only $9.00 not only that but we would also get $5.00 just for signing up another $5.00 for your telephone number and another $5.00 for your E-Mail, making $15.00 free gambling money for me. Richard was even luckier his birthday falls in April so he received
another $5.00, making his stash a cool $20.00. We both played the slots with our free money, Richard
lost his I won $17.00, so our night camping with full hookups only cost $3.00. We have a beautiful spot overlooking a small lake. The weather here in Iowa is beautiful 86 and sunny.
HAPPY BIRTHDAY CHLOE!

Congratulations to Chris, today is her last day at work. She made it. I'll still have some things left to clean up Saturday and I'll be finished. The plan at this time is to head out early Monday morning and head south on 35w until Kansas City. We will then leave the freeway and head southwest until we find New Mexico. Things will slow down then and we will see what happens.
